Ford Australia has come clean with the pricing for its latest special-edition ute, the Ford Ranger FX4, which is priced from just under $60,000 to almost $63,000.
Designed to stand out from the crowd with its dark visuals, the new model is priced below the popular Wildtrak models, but only 1000 of these limited edition utes will be sold in Australia.
The higher prices represent a $2500 increase on their donor vehicle, the Ford Ranger XLT dual-cab 4x4 ute, the extra cash fetching lots of black accessories, including 18-inch 'FX4' alloy wheels and a low-rise rear sports bar.
Black exterior mirrors, tailgate and door handles are added, along with an FX4 mesh grille and FX4 stickers on the front doors and tailgate.
Top-spec 'dark' Bi-LED high performance headlights are part of the package, while on the inside the Ford Ranger FX4 gets leather-accented seats with red stitching and FX4 logos, FX4 carpet mats for front and rear seat rows, red stitching for the steering wheel, gear shifter, centre console and instrument panel, as well as tinted graphite highlights for door trim and instrument panel, plus soft-touch premium instrument panel surfacing.
The cheapest Ford Ranger FX4 is $59,140, and that's with the least desirable 3.2-litre turbo-diesel engine (147kW/470Nm, 8.4L/100km) and six-speed manual gearbox.
The price rises to $61,340 when the 3.2-litre turbo-diesel is paired with a six-speed automatic, while the range-topping 2.0-litre turbo-diesel (157kW/500Nm, 7.4L/100km) mated to a more sophisticated 10-speed automatic gearbox is a $62,840 proposition.
The new model is part of the updated 2020 Ford Ranger line-up, which hit showrooms in December 2019, and comes with more driver assistance tech as a result. We're talking lane departure warning and active lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, auto-dipping high-beam headlights and autonomous emergency braking.
An optional tech pack adds automated parallel parking and adaptive cruise control to the FX4 specification.
The Ford Ranger FX4 slots in between XLT and Wildtrak trim levels and as part of the 2020 model upgrades comes with the SYNC3 infotainment system (which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), as does the entire Ranger model line-up.
The 2020 Ford Ranger FX4’s towing capacity is 3500kg and the aftersales provisions include a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty. Capped-price servicing is part of the package, as is a free loan car when the ute is in the workshop.
