Two weeks after announcing an updated 2020 Ford Ranger line-up, Ford Australia has revealed similar changes for the range-topping Raptor and Wildtrak versions of the nation’s favourite 4x4 ute.
As with the rest of the MY20 Ford Ranger family, there are no changes to list prices, which last increased in May, and the biggest news is the addition of FordPass Connect embedded modem tech across the entire ute range, bringing new connected services and remote vehicle functions via smartphone app.
For 2020, the tough black-look Wildtrak X variant also returns to the Ford Ranger line-up, bringing a claimed $6000-plus worth of extra components for only $2000 more than the standard Wildtrak.
Key extras include the Raptor’s bi-LED headlights that are said to offer 17 per cent better light penetration (20 per cent on high-beam), a remote-controlled power roller-shutter, unique 18-inch matte-black alloy wheels with +35 offset, black fender flares, a black nudge bar with LED light bar and an A-pillar-mounted snorkel.
In addition, the 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor also scores a Tough Bed spray-in bedliner as standard, which is claimed to stronger and more durable than a drop-in or aftermarket bed liner.
Ford says the two-part factory-applied coating, which optional on other Rangers, presents a high-grip textured surface that resists scratching and restricts moisture between the liner and the bed.
Finally, the MY20 Wildtrak, Wildtrak X and Raptor also bring the Ranger’s first pearlescent premium exterior colour option. The fresh Alabaster White paintwork is now a no-cost option alongside Arctic White.
All Ford Rangers continue to come standard with the Blue Oval’s SYNC3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, a five-star ANCAP safety rating, a five-year/unlimited-km warranty and $299 A and B logbook services for the first four years/60,000km at 12-month/15,000km intervals.
Announced on the same day that Toyota launched its facelifted HiLux – just as the rest of the 2020 Ford Ranger line-up was announced on the same day 2020 HiLux pricing was revealed – the MY20 Ford Ranger Wildtrak and Raptor models are available in showrooms now.
“Ranger continues to adapt, grow and expand its offering, bringing more targeted, specific capabilities and attributes to Australian customers to help them meet any challenges they face,” said Ford Australia President and CEO, Andrew Birkic.
“Now, with Ranger Wildtrak X, alongside upgraded Wildtrak and Ford Performance Ranger Raptor, customers can get even more out of their off-road adventures.
“What’s more, we will be adding to what we offer in 2020 – not only with the updates to Ranger we’ve made this month, including FordPass Connect on every model, but with more lifestyle choices to take on that off-road adventure, to stand apart with the capability and assurance Ranger is known for.”
