Ford reveals all-new Everest

Australian-designed Ranger-based Everest SUV emerges in global concept reveal

Ford’s Australian designed and engineered Everest SUV has made its world debut at the Fox Studios in Sydney today.

Revealed as part of a ‘Go Further’ future product event, the Everest concept is based on the locally developed Ranger ute.

The seven-seat Everest concept was presented for the first time globally by Ford Motor Company Chief Operating Officer, Mark Fields.

“This is our vision for a large, seven-seat off-road SUV to allow our customers to take on the world and it was created by our world-class design team here in Australia,” Fields said.

“We believe our customers will love the distinctive design, which clearly showcases the Ford Everest Concept’s exceptional off-road capability and toughness.”

Little other information was announced, Fields saying only that the Ford Everest Concept was unmistakably a new member of the Ford family, featuring an inverted trapezoid grille set high on the front of the car.

“The Ford Everest Concept’s contemporary look deliberately conveys
ruggedness, combined with modern proportions, dynamic window graphics
and a sculptured profile,” said Ford.

“The SUV’s distinctive design and high ground clearance is not only purposeful but true to Ford’s fun-to-drive DNA.”

Created locally by the Ford Australia design and product development team, the Everest is expected to go on sale here by 2015.

By then the existing Kuga mid-size SUV will have been joined by the small EcoSport (in December) in Ford’s SUV line-up, which will also include an imported replacement for the Australian-made Territory – a name that could continue to be used – by 2017.

The all-new Everest is expected to be built alongside the Ranger in Thailand, and will be a direct rival for Toyota’s segment-leading Prado and the Holden Colorado 7.
