Ford reveals full 2017 Fiesta range

But there's no official ETA for the new Ford light-car's Aussie debut

Ford has revealed more details and images of its redesigned 2017 Fiesta range, which was previewed by a single teaser image of the new Fiesta ST-Line variant overnight.

Apart from the new ST-Line, which could replace the existing Fiesta Sport, the big news is a new Vignale flagship variant, which will sit above Europe's new Titanium model, and a new 'Active' crossover derivative of the 2017 Fiesta.

As we've reported, the seventh-generation Fiesta goes on sale in Europe early next year, but so far Ford Australia – which sources its Fiestas from Thailand – is staying mum on when, or indeed if, Aussies will gain access to the car-maker's new light-car.

The Blue Oval's new Fiesta line-up was revealed at a 'GoFurther' event in Germany this afternoon, alongside a number of special-edition Mustang and Transit Custom models for Europe.

At the event, Ford president and CEO Mark Fields and Ford of Europe, Middle East and Africa president Jim Farley presented the four new Fiesta models to about 2500 Ford dealers, employees and media at the company’s Niehl manufacturing facility in Cologne, where Europe's Fiesta is produced.

As expected, all new Fiesta models, which are believed to be based on the existing Fiesta platform, come with new exterior sheetmetal and a redesigned interior featuring a new 8.0-inch floating high-definition touch-screen.

It will be equipped with Ford's latest SYNC 3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and the company says the new Fiesta will be its first model to bring a premium B&O PLAY sound system from Bang & Olufsen.

Ford of Europe also claims its newest Fiesta, which cel;ebrates its 40th anniversary this year, will offer more personalisation options to customers than ever.

Powertrain details are yet to be revealed, but it's certain will expand the rollout of its latest 1.0-litre turbo-petrol EcoBoost engine, which powers Australia's Fiesta Sport. All other Aussie Fiestas are powered by a 1.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder.

Ford says the diminutive three-pot engine will be event more efficient than before (4.9L/100km) due to a new cylinder deactivation system -- the first of its kind for a triple-cylinder engine – that will it to run on two cylinders.

Apart from Rayong in Thailand and Cologne in Germany, Ford also produces the Fiesta at Valencia in Spain, Cuautitlàn in Mexico, Sao Bernado in Brazil, Chelny in Russia and Hanoi in Vietnam.
