Ford tops motoring gongs for 2013
Broadmeadows takes the lion's share of the tally in motoring.com.au's 2013 ‘Recommends' listFord has topped the field in the 2013 motoring.com.au Recommends awards. The Blue Oval received a total of nine spots in motoring.com.au’s 2013 list – grabbing gongs in a number of important consumer categories.
Ford also topped the ‘Recommends’ count in 2012.
The brands with the next best performances were Toyota and Mercedes-Benz with six and five ‘Recommends’ gongs across a range of segments respectively. A mix of five mass market and prestige brands tied with four ‘Recommends’ nominations as the next most successful marques.
carsales.com Ltd’s editorial brand, motoring.com.au, instituted the ‘Recommends’ awards in 2012. The vehicles are motoring.com.au's top picks for real-world new-car consumers.

motoring.com.au 'powers' all automotive editorial content across the carsales network of websites. It also publishes Australia's number one automotive iPad magazine app each fortnight.
motoring.com.au and carsales.com Ltd Editor-in-Chief, Mike Sinclair, said ‘recommends’ is a key emerging tool for new car buyers.
“The cars named as motoring.com.au ‘Recommends’ are the best of breed in their respective segments and represent canny choices for new car shoppers," Mr Sinclair said
“The motoring.com.au crew drives literally hundreds of cars each year -- new releases, both local and abroad, seven-day tests and longer-term reviews that replicate the ownership experience. We’ve used this knowledge to name our top cars, so new car buyers can short-circuit their research and fast track buying decisions,” he said.
motoring.com.au 'Recommends’ lists top choices in 13 lifestyle categories and sub-categories.
The award categories essentially correspond with search options across carsales' network of websites including carsales.com.au, CarPoint.com.au, Redbook.com.au and motoring.com.au. They are defined by Redbook data including such factors as price, size, passenger capacity and other category-specific factors.
The categories are: First Car; City Car; Family under and over $30,000; SUV under and over $50,000; Performance under and over $100,000; Prestige under and over $100,000; Off-road 4x4; Tradie; and Green.
While a number of models were carry-over winners from last year, many new makes and models were featured.
motoring.com.au ‘Recommends’ logos for both 2012 and 2013 will be present on the award-winning models across carsales' new-car buying and research areas. In this way motoring.com.au ‘Recommends’ is intended to not only reward excellence but also to be an easily recognised tool via which new car buyers can narrow their search.
motoring.com.au’s team considers a wide range of attributes in making choices for each of the categories: performance; refinement; handling; suitability for purpose and value for money. Resale, reliability and factors such as warranty and the availability or otherwise of benefits such as fixed-price servicing are also considerations.
Only cars on sale to the general public and driven by motoring.com.au before July 1, 2013 were eligible for the awards.
The motoring.com.au recommends winners also form the basis of carsales.com.au People's Choice Awards. carsales.com.au's PCA polling is carried out later in the calendar year.
