Ford urges Ranger Super Duty fans to come forward

Faced with “overwhelming” interest in the 2026 Ford Ranger Super Duty, the blue oval has urged potential buyers to make themselves known.

Ford wants to make sure it orders the correct level of Super Duty production from the factory in Thailand and not leave potential buyers hanging on the end of long wait times.

“We’ll manage that [supply versus demand] the best we can as we get closer to launch, as we always have, and we’ll do our best to match supply with demand,” Ford Australia Marketing Director Ambrose Henderson told carsales.

“We’d encourage anyone who’s interested, any customers, to make sure that they’ve chatted to their dealer and they’ve made their interest known, so that as we get into forecasting production we can make the right calls.”

After much pre-hype, Ford rolled out the Ranger Super Duty as the centrepiece of its 100th anniversary celebrations at the Melbourne showgrounds in March.

The V6 turbo-diesel-powered Super Duty will come as 4x4 a single cab, super cab and dual cab with a 4500kg braked towing capacity, a 4500kg gross vehicle mass, a massive 8000kg gross combination mass and increased 4x4 abilities.

It is expected to launch late in 2025 with pricing forecast to start under $100,000 – just how much we don’t yet know.

While the obvious rivals for the Super Duty are the big US pick-up trucks such as Ford’s own F-150, it is also expected to face some new competition in 2026 when it comes to a 4500kg braked towing capacity from the GWM Tank 700 V8 PHEV.

Maybe that will encourage Ford to follow up with the Everest Super Duty.

Henderson said the potential buyer response to the Super Duty stood out from anything he had experienced in 18 years of working at Ford.

“In my time here I’ve never seen a response as strong and as positive as Ranger Super Duty,” he said.

While much of that interest is being registered through the Ford website, Henderson declined to quantify what that response amounted to in online traffic or how it compared to other models such as the current Ranger and Everest when they were in the pre-launch promotion phase.

“We have all of that data, but I’m sure our competitors would love to know that data as well. So we won’t share any of our leads or our traffic.

“Suffice to say, it’s been a phenomenal success so far.”

While its original intended targets were reported as primarily fleet and industry, there’s been plenty of private interest, especially among caravanners attracted to its generous towing capacity and payloads.

“We’ve seen that response consistently since we started talking about the product,” said Henderson. “So we know there’s been significant retail inquiry, particularly those people that are looking to tow the caravan around the country.

“Just the abilities that this opens up that they never had before, and the additional weight carrying and comfort that that provides for them.”

Henderson said that interest was not coming at the expense of the expected fleet and industry interest.

“There is nothing else that offers the combination of features that Ranger Super Duty does to be able to tow, carry, and have a gross combined mass to the level of Super Duty, but also combine that with all of the latest safety and technology features that we have, which we know are absolutely critical for our fleet and governments,” said Henderson.

“And they just haven’t had access to that up until now, and they’ve been forced to compromise. They’re either compromising on a product that they’re getting a lot of aftermarket equipment to, or they’re compromising because they’re not getting as much capacity that they need to really get the job done.

“So, yeah, the inquiry has been overwhelming, and it’s been from across the market.”
