Despite launching the new Ranger dual-cab Ute only this week, attention has already turned to its replacement. US website pickuptrucks.com has caught the 2012 Ranger and its Mazda BT-50 sibling testing in both American and Australia.
Codenamed 'T6' the new ute will play a big role in the blue oval's new 'One Ford' philosophy by underpinning the first global Ranger. Currently Ford produces a North American-specific Ranger while the rest of the world is sold the Thai-built model.
The T6 is being developed by Ford Australia (more here) in both left and right-hand drive variants. The new light truck platform is expected to be both longer and wider than the current model as well as retaining a one-tonne payload.
Power is expected from a variety of petrol and diesel units including the 3.0-litre Duratorq four-cylinder turbodiesel.
