FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW: A Lamborghini Urus, but faster

Right, enough of all that electric car business. It’s time for some proper motor show craziness, with the Novitec-tuned version of the hot-selling Lamborghini Urus.

The tuning house has taken the Italian super-SUV up from 478kW of power from its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 to 575kW – almost a 25 per cent power hike for the already-brutally quick two-tonner.

It’s also ramped up the torque from 850Nm to 1032Nm, and the big Urus now tops out at an astonishingly energetic 310km/h (up from 305km/h).

With a 3.3-second sprint to 100km/h, the Novitec Urus also has a wider body to accommodate the 23-inch tyres and forged alloy wheels.

It’s not Novitec’s first attack on a Lamborghini, because it has also cranked out faster versions of the Huracan and the Aventador.

It uses a plug-and-play tuning module installed on each of the cylinder banks to control the recalibrated mapping for the fuel-injection, turbo boost pressure and the ignition.

There is an all-new exhaust system and a host of other changes to hit the torque peak at 2900rpm and the power peak at 6200.

The eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive systems have been only mildly upgraded, though it claims the widebody Esteso bodywork does most of the work to improve the handling.

The 14-part body kit can be installed at Novitec partners around the world, taking the rear axle out 120mm to 2.13 metres wide and it lowers the ride height by 25mm.
