FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW: Hyundai reveals 2016 Elantra interior

Korean car-maker teases another new rendering of its Mazda3 rival. This time shows off new interior

Hyundai has released yet another rendering of its sixth-generation Elantra ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt motor show.

On sale in early 2016, the Korean Mazda3 rival looks like it will follow the trend of having an interior dominated by a large touch-screen infotainment system that, by the looks of the rendering, significantly cuts the button count in the cabin.

Under its sleek skin the sixth-generation Elantra will debut a new architecture that we expect will also underpin the next-generation i30 small hatch.

The latest information suggests a carry-over range of engines, albeit with a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine to be shared with the Kia Cerato also on the way.

As well as the new 2.0-litre, the new Elantra will also be available with the recently launched 131kW 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine that come with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Diesel isn’t going to feature in the line-up, according to Hyundai Australia PR boss, Bill Thomas, who said a diesel is “unlikely, given the Elantra's status as a 'general markets' car. That includes the [Korean] domestic market, the American market... places where diesel isn't so popular.”

Originally, there was some speculation that Hyundai would wait until November to unveil the all-new Elantra at the Los Angeles motor show but now the Korean firm is set to pull the drapes off at the Frankfurt show.
