A new teaser image of what's expected to be an evolution of last year's Lamborghini Terzo Millennio concept has been posted over the weekend on the car-maker's Instagram account.
This time, following last week's darkened preview image, a designer is shown sketching the car that Lamborghini plans to reveal on September 10 at the Frankfurt motor show.
The Terzo Millennio concept grabbed headlines for both its outlandish looks and the fact it ditched the Aventador's mighty 6.5-litre V12 for an advanced pure-electric powertrain.
Featuring in-wheel electric motors and MIT-developed supercapacitor energy storage technology, the Terzo Millennio was a brash look at a zero-emission future for the famous Italian supercar marque.
The car set to be unveiled at the German show will likely be a more realistic take on the original's design as it edges closer to production.
Reports suggest that instead of being pure-electric, the production car could debut a future hybrid V12.
Developed under the codename LB48H, the Lambo EV will reportedly be a limited-edition with just 63 cars to be made, each of which are each already sold for $2.5 million ($A3.7m).
If the reports are true, expect the production Terzo to be all-wheel drive, with the front axle driven by a powerful electric motor while, at the rear, a tuned version of the car-maker's current 6.5-litre V12 will star.
Combined, the hybrid V12 should produce around 650kW, offering true hypercar levels of performance with a 0-100km/h time of less than 2.5 seconds.
The new standalone hypercar could enable Lamborghini to go racing against the Aston Martin Valkyrie in the new World Endurance Championship hypercar class, but all will be revealed next week at the Frankfurt show.
