FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW: Last tease of Volkswagen ID.3 ahead of unveil
Production-ready pure-electric German hatch teased in camo for the final time ahead of launchThe new Volkswagen ID.3 hatch has been previewed for the final time ahead of its full unveiling and launch at the Frankfurt motor show on September 10.
Claimed to offer a "ground-breaking design, greater ranges, impressive dynamics and a spacious interior", Volkswagen has confirmed the battery-powered VW ID.3 will line-up alongside other models in the all-electric I.D. family.
Based on the Volkswagen's Group's all-new dedicated EV platform, Modular Electric Matrix (MEB), the VW ID.3 will be launched with 45kWh, 58kWh and long-range 77kWh battery packs offering a range of between 330-550km.
The Volkswagen ID.3 will be capable of being topped up with a 100kW charger and Volkswagen says its zero-emissions Golf alternative can provide a range of up to 290km after a short 30-minute charge.
Volkswagen says the batteries of the ID.3 -- which employs a single, powerful 150kW electric motor that drives the rear wheels -- will be guaranteed for up to eight years and 160,000km.
It has not released performance figures for the ID.3 but says that in Europe pricing will kick off from €30,000 ($A49,000) when deliveries start in the middle of 2020.
Volkswagen Australia says it is keen to launch the ID.3 hatch and production versions of the I.D. Crozz SUV and Kombi-style I.D. Buzz people-mover here, but none of the new VW EVs will be available Down Under before 2022.
