We saw the upgraded MY14 Camaro coupe and new Z28 flagship revealed at the New York motor show in March, and now Chevrolet has presented the facelifted Camaro convertible ahead of its Frankfurt show debut next month.
Like the MY14 coupe, the revised Camaro convertible receives a wider new grille and front bumper, plus LED ‘halo’ headlights, horizontal tail-lights, a ‘sculptural’ deck lid with integrated aerial and a revised rear diffuser.
While the convertible misses out on the 2014 Camaro SS coupe’s new bonnet vent, SS and ZL1 coupe models now also come with the option of Recaro Performance Sport Seats with larger seat bolsters, while the head-up display and Driver Information Center are now in color for 2LT, 2SS and ZL1 models.
The most significant upgrade for the fifth-generation Camaro, which was launched in the US in 2006 and is underpinned by the same Australian-designed Zeta platform as Holden’s Commodore, also features a new Chevrolet MyLink connected radio with seven-inch touch-screen.
There is no change to the Camaro’s 318kW/569Nm 6.2-litre V8, a versions of which also powers most HSVs sold in Australia, which accelerates the six-speed manual Camaro coupe to 100km/h in 5.2 seconds (5.4 seconds for the convertible).
Six-speed automatic versions remain available in the US and Europe, where the MY14 models – including the new 373kW/637Nm 7.0-litre LS7 V8-powered Z28 -- arrive in showrooms later this year.
