Fresh-faced Skoda Fabia teased

Czech mate sketches new LED front-end facelift for its smallest model

Skoda has released a teaser image confirming it will debut a facelifted Fabia hatch at the Geneva motor show in early March.

Due to arrive in Australia in October, the upgraded version of the Czech car-maker’s smallest model on sale here will receive a “major design overhaul”, said Skoda overnight.

As you can see here, LED headlights and tail-lights are the key cosmetic additions, but in a short statement Skoda said state-of-the-art technology and new ‘Simply Clever’ features would also be part of the upgrade.

We understand engines will be carryover -- meaning 66TSI and 81TSI 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engines with manual and DSG auto transmissions -- but model packages such as an updated Monte Carlo are yet to be confirmed.

Skoda has sold more than four million Fabias since 1999, including 500,000-plus examples of the current third-generation Fabia released in 2014, making a key model for the Volkswagen sister brand.

Before the updated light hatch and wagon range arrives here, Skoda Australia will add the Karoq, an all-new small SUV, to its range in July.

Stand by for details on the 2018 Fabia.
