The FPV GT-E was by far and away the most subtle V8 Ford Performance Vehicle ever produced, but there was nothing subtle about its capabilities. And now the very first 5.0-litre customer car has surfaced for sale on carsales.
There’s plenty of debate as to which model and variant is the ultimate, greatest, best and/or most desirable FPV ever made, but we reckon this stealthy silver 2010 FPV GT-E would have to be right up there.
And there's no denying it is one of the most potent pre-EV factory sleepers ever made.
Why’s that? Because this is vehicle number one of the 142 examples ever made, and it’s been signed – technically twice – by four of Ford’s premier V8 Supercars drivers of its era.
Twice? The owner received a personalised message from the drivers congratulating them on their purchase, supported by another set of autographs on the inside cover of the handbook.
The GT-E was one of just three core FG FPVs (GT, GT-E, GT-P) to get the full-fat 335kW/570Nm supercharged 5.0-litre ‘Miami’ V8 before the wider FG II update; lesser models like the GS got a milder 315kW/545Nm version.
The swansong GT-F was latterly good for a muscular 351kW.
What set the GT-E apart from its stablemates was its subdued exterior styling, which made it look little more than a crispy G6E… save for the lower ride height, bonnet bulge and hard-to-miss ‘GT-E’ badging.
But beneath that subdued body are all the same mechanicals and chassis hardware as the standard GT, making it one of the most dynamic Falcons of its time, albeit with more standard equipment.
The GT-E’s kit list was headlined by exclusive 19-inch wheels, Brembo front brakes, leather upholstery, FPV luxury seats, dual-zone climate control, faux wood trim inlays, iPod integration, Bluetooth, a six-speed ZF automatic transmission, push-button start and a bi-modal exhaust.
Not a bad haul in 2010 – and a combination worth $82,540 plus on-road costs in its day.
In addition to the signed engine bay, handbook and extremely low kilometres, GT-E 1/142 is protected and essentially future-proofed by 6 Pad CAT electronic rust protection and has been since new.
It also comes with official photos at the FPV factory prior to its dispatch to Queensland and matching ‘335GTE’ FPV numberplates.
“This car is a collectors dream,” the seller said. “It is in excellent condition and is 100 per cent original.
“She is my pride and joy but … it is time for her to belong to someone else.”
