From the Classifieds: Toby Price’s Finke winner for sale

It’s not often a trophy truck is listed on carsales, let alone one that’s won three Finke Desert Races in the hands of Toby Price

Trophy trucks are the ultimate desert-conquering machines and because they’re purpose-built, dedicated racers it’s uncommon to see one publicly listed for sale – let alone one driven by a champion driver.

Toby Price is arguably the most successful international off-road racer Australia has ever produced, having conquered the world’s toughest races in cars and on motorcycles alike.

A two-time winner of the iconic Dakar Rally and the first person to win the Finke Desert Rally on both a bike and in a car, Price is always at the pointy end of the field when it comes to off-road competition – and now his Finke-winning trophy truck is up for grabs.

Freshly listed on carsales for $620,000 excluding statutory charges, the Mitsubishi Triton-styled rig was originally built by TSCO Racing in the US as a custom vehicle for Price and then freighted to Australia, where it won three Finkes on the trot between 2021 and 2023, breaking prologue and race time records in the process.

Lurking under the bonnet is a naturally-aspirated 6.0-litre Dougans V8 outputting a wholesome 559kW/813Nm, hooked up to an Albins six-speed sequential transmission operated by paddle shifters.

Fox shock absorbers at all four corners provide a massive 585mm of suspension travel up front and 762mm at the rear to keep the huge BFGoodrich Baja T/A tyres in contact with terra firma.

Obviously, the vibrant Red Bull competition decals have been removed in favour of a far more subdued white and grey ensemble, but the asking price still includes plenty of other goodies and spares one might need for their own trophy truck exploits.

These include the original Motorsport Australia logbook, eight spare wheels and tyres, one new and two used tail shafts, spare starter motor, various bolts and hems, extra air cleaner and lights.

What makes this particular vehicle so appealing – on top of the fact it was raced to victory by our own Toby Price – is the fact it’s the only one of its kind in the world: a custom-built creation that blurs the line between TSCO Trophy Truck and Trophy Spec Truck, developed specifically for Price to compete in.

The champion driver said the truck was “absolutely amazing to drive” and that he’s “100 per cent sad to see it go”.

“Building it and my first Finke win was my favourite memory,” he said.

“I wish I could keep it… it’s fun – the most stable truck and best turning truck I’ve been able to race in 2WD. It loves being wide open and doing high speeds.

“Person to buy will definitely not be disappointed.”

We don’t have any official performance figures to share with you but Price’s record-breaking time of 3:21:46 from Alice Springs to Finke largely speaks for itself.

The jack-of-all-trades champ has now turned his attention to competing in and winning the illustrious Baja 1000, a feat which has “bitten” him “hard” and requires a different class of vehicle.
