Deepal says its curious three-in-one E07 Multitruck might not appeal to all Australian drivers and families, but the esoteric electric all-rounder will still boost overall sales by attracting customers into showrooms to look at all the brand’s models.
The E07 rolled into showrooms this month offering a blend of premium sedan cabin comfort and performance SUV credentials bolted to a ute boot, and while the unique model is polarising opinion, the attention is only a good thing according to Deepal’s boss.
Speaking to carsales at the E07 launch, Deepal Australia general manager Cormac Cafolla said interest in the Chinese manufacturer would benefit from the arrival of the Multitruck, even if not every interested customer was serious about buying one.
“Bringing in a product like E07 gives you a conversation to have that probably no one else can have in the same way,” he said.
“You bring in a product that's innovative, it will act as a halo for the brand in terms of its product positioning, that will bring people into the showroom.”
Until the E07 arrived, Deepal had just one product to offer Australian buyers, but Cafolla reported the Multitruck had already accounted for at least one sale of its other model, the S07, and that effect would with the model range.
“We’ve had a customer come in in the last week on that product (E07) and buy something else. So I think having a multi-car lineup, when we add S05 towards the end of the year, gives customers choice.”
Exactly what that line-up will look like is still only partially known. Deepal has confirmed it will introduce the S05 small electric SUV in late 2025, taking the range to three models locally.
Beyond that, a number of options exist to grow the family with numerous variants expanding the line-up further still.
“By the end of the year, we'll be talking about three different products, not just one, and multiple derivatives of those products,” Cafolla said.
Those variants will most likely include the recently revealed S05 AWD flagship that rolled out at the IAA Munich motor show with 320kW and 0-100km/h sprint of 5.5 seconds.
It’s also expected that a rear-drive version will be offered with power ranging from 163kW to 221kW.
And after that, the next electric cab off the rank – of the current known models – is most likely to be the S09 large SUV which made its debut at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, balancing the local range with three different sized electric SUVs and one ute.
“Having options is crucial,” concluded Cafolla.
