The Finer Details

The Monjaro EM-i is set to become one of Geely's most significant Australian launches, expanding the Chinese brand's growing SUV range with a larger and more premium offering.

Measuring 4800mm long, 1895mm wide and 1700mm tall, the Monjaro rides on a 2845mm wheelbase and is built around Geely's latest GEA EVO platform. Buyers will be able to choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive layouts, while continuously controlled damping (CCD) suspension and European chassis tuning are designed to improve ride comfort and handling.

The biggest talking point is Geely's EM-i plug-in hybrid system. Paired with a battery pack of up to 40kWh, the setup delivers a claimed electric-only driving range of up to 170km under WLTP testing.

Combined driving range is quoted at up to 1137km, putting the Monjaro EM-i among the longest-range plug-in hybrid SUVs currently planned for the Australian market.

The Monjaro will also serve as a showcase for Geely's latest in-car technology. A 15.4-inch HD infotainment touchscreen is paired with a 25.6-inch head-up display and a 16-speaker Flyme audio system.

Comfort features include heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, power adjustment for both front occupants, 256-colour ambient lighting, suede-like interior trim, a surround-view monitor and a power tailgate.

Outside, the Monjaro adopts Geely's latest design language with 'Energy Matrix' headlights and an 'Energy String' grille. Wheel options include 19-inch and 20-inch designs, while buyers will be able to choose from five paint finishes: Sunlight Gold, Sky Blue, Night Black, Lunar Grey and Cloud White.

The Monjaro EM-i also provides a glimpse at how Geely plans to broaden its electrified portfolio in Australia. Earlier this year the company outlined a three-tier hybrid strategy consisting of i-HEV self-charging hybrids, EM-i long-range plug-in hybrids and EM-P performance-focused plug-in hybrids, with the Monjaro expected to play a key role in the latter two segments.

The Road Ahead

The Geely Monjaro EM-i is scheduled to reach Australian showrooms during the first half of 2027.

Local specifications, pricing and performance figures remain under wraps, but the combination of a claimed 170km electric range, more than 1100km total driving range and a technology-rich cabin positions the Monjaro EM-i as a direct challenger to larger electrified family SUVs from established brands.

As Geely continues its Australian expansion, the Monjaro EM-i looks set to become the brand's flagship SUV and one of its most important launches yet.
