Genesis Australia has tweaked its flagship 2023 Genesis GV80 for the new model year, gifting the six-cylinder versions with a revised electronic control suspension tune and the wider range with some subtle cosmetic touch-ups inside and out.
The large six-cylinder luxury SUV’s new suspension tune revolves first and foremost around a software update designed to improve the camera-based system’s logic and help it better adapt to road surfaces.
“The aim of the software changes was to better manage body control movements across certain road speeds,” Genesis product development manager Tim Rodgers said.
“The software revisions were applied to both normal and sport modes and bring improved wheel control as well as body control, while maintaining a premium feel overall.”
Rodgers said the new tune helps the GV80 feel more tied down and the update is complemented by a ‘minor steering hardware change’ similar to the one made to the facelifted 2023 Hyundai Palisade, but no specifics have been disclosed.
You’ll be hard-pressed to tell the MY23 GV80 apart from any of its previous model year iterations, but keen car spotters will differentiate the latest versions by their new rear brake calliper covers, which have been designed to smarten up the aesthetics of the braking system.
Genesis GV80 fans and owners will remember the front braking package from the flagship 3.5T AWD – 380mm rotors, four-piston callipers – was applied to the rest of the range earlier this year.
This is the only change that’s been made to the exterior this time round, but thankfully the new ‘Genesis Integrated Controller’ affixed to the centre console is more noticeable.
Redesigned in response to customer feedback, the once-concave dial has been replaced by a new raised unit similar to the one in the smaller Genesis GV70, which will not only be easier to use but look a bit more special too. And yes, the handwriting recognition function has been retained.
As you’d expect for a new model year, the MY23 upgrades have impacted the GV80’s pricing, with the 2.5T, 2.5T AWD and 3.0D AWD all being subjected to a $1009 price bump, meaning the range now starts from $92,200 plus on-road costs.
The top-spec 3.5T AWD meanwhile has gone up $1509 to $109,700.
“Subtle updates and refinements for our progressive GV80 SUV ensure it will continue as an enticing flagship luxury offering into 2023,” Genesis Motors Australia boss Connal Yan said.
“As well as delighting in the luxurious qualities of 2023 GV80, customers will also be treated to The Genesis Difference, which provides an ultra-convenient all-inclusive ownership experience.”
