GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Australian-bound models feature on Citroen stand

French car-maker struts its stuff at Geneva with Australia-bound C4 AirCross, DS5, Berlingo and Dispatch, as well as DS4 and DS3 track hotties

Citroen had no shortage of new vehicles to display at Geneva this week, with eight models of note on its stand – four of which are certainties for Australia.

Most significant of these are the new, Mitsubishi ASX-based AirCross SUV (due here in the third quarter) and the new, medium-size DS5, which is the latest and largest in Citroen’s upmarket DS range and is due to arrive here mid-year.

The DS5 Hybrid4, which just may come to Australia, was also on the stand, complete with 149kW 2.0-litre HDI engine, all-wheel drive (using an electric motor on the back wheels) and 99g/km CO2 emissions.

Also Australia-bound in the third quarter are updated versions of the Berlingo and Dispatch light commercials.

A tasty morsel was the “concept” DS4 Racing which, if it went in to production, would be high on the Australian wish-list to sell alongside the DS4 model introduced here in February this year.

The track-biased DS4 has a 191kW 1.6-litre turbo engine warmed up by Citroen Racing, dropped-down suspension with wider front and rear tracks, 19-inch wheels and reworked brakes with bigger front discs operated by four-piston callipers. Naturally the matte, textured grey DS4 Racing gets a body kit, comprising front air-splitter, rear diffuser, side skirts and wheel arch extensions.

As for the Citroen C1, local importer Ateco says it has no plans for Oz import, and likewise for the Euro-only specials including the C3 Red Block, DS4 and DS5 White Pearl and DS3 Ultra Prestige featured on the Geneva stand.

The same applies for the DS3 Racing S. Loeb, which Citroen says is precluded from consideration in Australia because of substantial ADR hurdles that would need to be dealt with. The limited-build car is basically a dressed-up version of the DS3 Racing with textured Tarmac black paint, red roof, side mirrors, dash and shift lever.
