GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Infiniti QX30 premieres
Small luxury SUV design study surfaces in Geneva, with production model to follow this yearInfiniti has rolled out the QX30, its A-Class-based rival to BMW X1, Audi Q3 and – yes – the Mercedes GLA.
The QX30 concept is set to enter series production in the UK this year, "targeting a new generation of Individualistic premium customers", in Infiniti's own words.
"With the QX30 Concept, we're showcasing a distinctively contemporary alternative in the premium compact segment for those who want something more than the status quo," Roland Krueger, Infiniti CEO, was quoted saying in a press release issued overnight.
"The vehicle embodies our conviction to give customers the freedom to go wherever they want, whenever they want – in a way that expresses their individualised character."
The show car rides on 21-inch wheels and is kitted out with equipment including sculpted skid plates and roof racks to signal its fitness for weekend recreational use. In production form it's likely to be more a daily driver for the typical urban commute. Nevertheless, the show car looks close to production ready, despite some exotic features and styling cues.
"We've used expected materials in an unexpected way, and given functional elements an artistic twist," said Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti Executive Design Director.
"It is the unconventional execution of a conventional element that makes the QX30 Concept a design leader."
Infiniti promises a range of powerplants for the production QX30, but is yet to reveal what they will be.
