GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: McLaren 675LT global premiere

UK supercar factory teases "quickest, purest" version of its Ferrari 458 rival

McLaren has confirmed the most potent version of its newly named Super Series vehicles, the 675LT, will be shown at the 2015 Geneva motor show next month, alongside the wild P1 GTR.

McLaren's Super Series range consists of vehicles including the 650S coupe, which is priced at $441,500 in Australia, and the Asia-only 625C model. The more affordable upcoming Sports Series will eventually slot in underneath the Super Series models.

As the name suggests, the new series-topping 675LT will belt out 675 horsepower, boasts McLaren. All told, that's 496kW of power from the car's 3.8-litre V8 twin-turbo engine, which is 18kW more than the 650S.

However the most powerful car in McLaren's range remains the hybrid P1 hypercar, which pumps out an unholy 673kW.

Apart from one measly teaser image of the vehicle's wheel and the upgraded power output, only a few other details of the new McLaren 675LT have been revealed. The Woking, UK-based car maker says the LT name pays homage to the McLaren F1 GTR Longtail from the late 1990s, and that the 675LT will "embody the Longtail ethos" via improved aerodynamics. This will result in more downforce says McLaren, which will increase driver engagement.

It's not clear whether the vehicle will feature a longer tail per se but expect exaggerated ground effects, such as a lower front splitter and bigger rear diffuser to give it more visual impact that the company's latest limited edition, the 650S Le Mans.

Lump in a reduced kerb weight, which could shed up to 100kg, and the 675LT will be "the lightest, the quickest, and the purest version in the range" says McLaren.

Available exclusively as a coupe once production begins later this year, more details of the McLaren 675LT's "startling performance figures" will be made public in the lead up to the 2015 Geneva motor show in early March.
