GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Peugeot takes out COTY with 308

Peugeot arrives with 108, leaves with Car of the Year, and debuts 308 SW

In addition to launching its new 108 city car at this year’s Geneva motor show, Peugeot has also taken home Car of the Year for its 308 hatchback, and has launched its 308 SW (pictured).

The 308 hatch beat 30 new models from across the globe, and was judged best in show by a team of 58 motoring journalists from 22 European countries.

Launched late last year, the 308 hatch is available with up to nine engine choices and will soon be offered in wagon, or SW format, as evidenced by today’s appearance of the C-segment estate.

“Peugeot continues its product offensive with the new 308 SW, which combines design and quality, functionality and high values, to boost the success of the 308, and the brand’s move upmarket,” said Peugeot product director, Xavier Peugeot.

Boasting the majority of the styling cues and features of the hatch, the 308 SW is 220mm longer in the rear with a 110mm increase in wheelbase when compared to the hatch variant. It draws it rear-end styling from the 508 SW and 508 RXH for a family-inspired look.

Larger than its predecessor, the new 308 SW is said to offer 660 litres of cargo space to window height (and with the seats in place), but is also offered with Magic Flat rear seats to extend carrying capacity significantly.

The Peugeot 308 SW will be launched in Europe shortly, and is expected to make it to Australia later this October (2014). The 108 is less likely to reach Australia, however, with Dimitri Andreatidis, Peugeot's national marketing manager adopting a 'one-game-at-a-time' approach.

"The 108 is an exciting product offering that is currently under study and we look forward to the outcome of the study."
