GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Qoros 3 wagon

China's first homegrown luxury brand teases its second model

Qoros made waves when it revealed China’s first indigenous luxury model, the mid-size GQ3 sedan at last year’s Geneva motor show.

Released in China last month and soon to be sold in Europe, the Qoros 3 backed up its sleek styling with a five-star Euro NCAP crash safety rating in September.

Now Qoros, which has promised to release a new model in China every six to 12 months, has revealed teaser images of its second model ahead of its world debut at the Geneva show in March.

The images suggest the second model from Qoros, which was established in 2007 and is reportedly in discussions with several importers about introducing the brand in Australia, will be a wagon based on the 3.

Previewed by the Estate Concept at Geneva, the Qoros 3 Estate is designed to appeal to younger, connected urban buyers with new technologies like QorosQloud, an infotainment system incorporating an eight-inch touch-screen.

It should be powered by the same 93kW and turbocharged 115kW 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engines as the Qoros 3, which is produced with both six-speed manual and dual-clutch transmissions.

As these images suggest, the Qoros 3 wagon will look a lot like the Estate Concept revealed alongside the Qoros 3 at Geneva, albeit with “subtly evolved treatment of the front grille and unique rear LED lamp clusters”.

At the same show, Qoros also unveiled the Cross Hybrid Concept, suggesting that both hybrid power and a higher-riding crossover based on the Qoros 3 platform are next on the agenda for the pioneering Chinese premium brand.

“The rapid sequence of model introductions is possible thanks to an innovative modular platform and flexible product development processes, led by experienced European senior engineers and supported by globally renowned engineering and systems partners,” said Qoros.

“Qoros plans to expand its line-up steadily over the next few years with the ultimate aim of offering a comprehensive range across of models in all major vehicle segments.”
