GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Renault adds Xmod to Scenic range
Renault's popular Scenic MPV range is joined by new crossover-styled Xmod variantSwoopy yet assertive looks mark the arrival of a newcomer to Renault’s Scenic MPV range – the all new Xmod.
Said to combine the outdoor cues of a crossover with the refined characteristics of an MPV, the Scenic Xmod offers offroad design elements, including an increased ride height, model-specific bumpers, sill guards and chrome-finish roof rails.
Inside, the Scenic Xmod continues its more rigged theme with a restyled centre console, housing the rotary controller for the three-mode Extended Grip drivetrain system. Like the recently announced Captur the Scenic Xmod will also benefit from Renault’s newly adopted R-Link multimedia system.
The dashboard instrument panel is replaced with a TFT (Thin Film Transistor) digital display which connects the driver with the Xmod’s vital stats, as well as multimedia and infotainment systems. These are upgraded with a Bose premium package on higher-spec Privilege variants. The top-trimmed variant also adds a flat-bottomed steering wheel, aluminium-capped pedals and gear knob, dark charcoal garnishes and contrasting stitch-work.
Like the regular Scenic, Xmod offers 555 litres of cargo space, and a choice of three powertrains. These include the 1.2-litre Energy TCe 130 (130hp/96kW) and Energy TCe 115 (115hp/86kW) turbocharged petrol engines with idle stop-start and Energy dCi 75 (75hp/56kW) turbodiesel. Even in its highest-output configuration, the Scenic Xmod achieves a combined cycle fuel economy figure of just 6.2L/100km with CO2 emissions of 140g/km.
The Scenic Xmod will join the facelifted Scenic and Grand Scenic range from mid-2013.
