GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Ssangyong XIV-2 Concept

Unique drop-top XIV-2 concept SUV to be unveiled as development of XIV-1 seen at Frankfurt last year

Ssangyong has just released images of new convertible concept car that will be unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March, previewing a second model in the Korean car-maker's plan to bring an evocative new crossover to European markets in the near future.

Dubbed XIV-2 (eXciting User Interface Vehicle 2), the new concept is based on the XIV-1 crossover that appeared at last year's Frankfurt motor show.

It features a convertible roof that power-folds to leave just the C-pillars – and rear window? – standing proud to act as rollover protection.

With a platform similar in size to an average small car, the Ssangyong concept will - apart from being lower-slung - be about the same size as a Volkswagen Tiguan or Honda CR-V.

It measures 4,166mm long, 1,820mm wide and 1,566mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,600mm.

Although there is no word yet of firm production dates, there are rumours the Ssangyong crossover is destined for a new, super-efficient family of 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines.
