GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: VW teases I.D. Vizzion's cabin

Volkswagen has released a new teaser of its I.D. Vizzion concept that gives us our clearest look yet at the fully autonomous, pure-electric people-mover.

Posted on social media overnight, the latest video tease appears to feature all-new holographic technology that, it's thought, might support the car-maker's gesture control.

Also worth noting in the short clip is the luxury cabin, complete with cherry wood and shag-pile carpet, appears to completely jettison a steering wheel and pedals.

That's because the flagship I.D., which measures in at a huge 5.11-metres long, features Volkswagen's most advanced autonomous driving functionality, although VW would prefer you to refer to its self-driving capability as a "digital chauffeur".

Instead of inputting a distance into a traditional sat-nav, VW says future owners of the I.D. Vizzion will use voice and gesture controls to operate the vehicle.

Beneath its skin the futuristic people-mover is powered by two electric motors that, combined, produce 225kW.

Top speed is around 180km/h and, thanks to an energy-dense 111kWh lithium-ion battery, Volkswagen claims the I.D. Vizzion can cover 665km between charges.

Set to launch the I.D. family of electric vehicles in 2020, the Vizzion is the fourth family member to be previewed by the German car-maker following the reveal of the original I.D. hatch, I.D. Crozz SUV, I.D. Buzz and an I.D. sedan.

But there's much more to come.

In total, Volkswagen says it will launch 20 pure-electric I.D. models by 2025.

More teases of the latest I.D. Vizzion are expected in the lead-up to its full reveal in Geneva next week on March 6.
