GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: VW teases I.D. Vizzion again
Latest glimpse of fully autonomous luxury car involves a snapshot of its front headlamp, an overhead show and a lady drinking coffee perched on a floating chairVolkswagen has revealed yet another piece in the puzzle of how its fourth member of its pure-electric I.D. family will look when its unveiled on the global stage at next week's Geneva motor show.
The latest tease sees a short video reveal a wide, thin LED headlamp and a hologram that's rumoured to be the physical manifestation of Volkswagen's 'digital chauffeur'.
The next is an overhead image of the large 5.1-metre long people mover that demonstrates its full-length panoramic sunroof, it's white LED lighting and some surprisingly conventional seating layout.
What's missing is the steering wheel and pedals - that's because there won't be any.
Instead, the car will rely on its fully autonomous driving prowess and the instructions given by its passengers via voice input or gestures.
The third image is far more baffling as it involves a lady sitting in a floating chair with an espresso cup surrounded by another hologram.
From earlier teases we know that beneath its skin the futuristic people-mover is powered by two electric motors that, combined, produce 225kW.
Top speed is around 180km/h and, thanks to an energy-dense 111kWh lithium-ion battery, Volkswagen claims the I.D. Vizzion can cover 665km between charges.
Set to launch the I.D. family of electric vehicles in 2020, the Vizzion is the fourth family member to be previewed by the German car-maker following the reveal of the original I.D. hatch, I.D. Crozz SUV, I.D. Buzz and an I.D. sedan.
In total, the German car giant says it will launch 20 I.D. models and derivatives by 2025.
