GM previews daddy Caddy SRX

Cadillac prepares to replace its X5-size SUV with an all-new model next year

Alongside the premiere appearance of the new Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California this week, the General Motors premium brand also previewed its next generation SRX SUV.

The all-new model will replace the BMW X5-size Cadillac SUV that first went on sale in 2004 and takes its styling cues from the Provoq concept seen in auto shows around the world during the year.

Very little detail has been revealed about the upcoming Cadillac, but GM says the new model is "being developed to achieve excellent driving dynamics and wet-weather traction, with an elegantly modern cabin designed to accommodate five passengers and ample cargo".

The SRX currently on sale in the US (and the UK) is built in left-hand drive only and is available with a 3.6-litre V6 (five-speed auto) or a 4.6-litre Northstar V8 (six-speed auto).

The new AWD Cadillac will appear at "all major global auto shows this year" and is due to go on sale as a 2010 model worldwide in 2009.

Its chances for Australia, given the LHD-only build at present, are open to speculation, although it is a fact that several mules have been sighted in recent times testing around Victoria -- namely Fishermen’s Bend and Lang Lang.
