
Just launched in Europe, the new Golf-with-a-boot Jetta was the star of Volkswagen's presence at Sydney. Not due to arrive Down Under until February 2006, the Jetta showcases VW's new, brighter styling and proved a svelte, stylish and popular unveiling.
According to VW Oz, the Jetta will arrive with a prices kicking off in the local $30K area. Volkswagen will offer the new Jetta with three four-cylinder engines: two petrol -- 110kW 2.0 FSI and 147kW 2.0 FSI Turbo; and one diesel -- 2.0 TDI / 103 kW.
Both the 2.0 FSI and 2.0 TDI will be standard with a six-speed manual transmission. The 2.0 TDI will be available with DSG double-clutch gearbox as an option. DSG will be standard with the 2.0 FSI Turbo engine, a la Golf GTI. A six-speed automatic gearbox will also be available as an option for the 2.0 FSI.
In addition to the Jetta, VW also displayed its facelifted Beetle and Polo models.
The New Beetle -- both hardtop and cabrio -- receives a subtle re-style and the option of a TDI (diesel) engine for the first time Down Under. As per VW's early 2005 commitment to offer diesel engines across the Volkswagen passenger vehicle range, the new Polo delivers the lowest entry price for a diesel passenger car at $22,990 for the 1.9 TDI.
Finally, VW also launched Caddy Life. A combination light commercial and people mover, the caddy Life can lug seven and provide surprising versatility via its vans style twin sliding side doors. It's also available in early 2006.
