The popular GWM Haval Jolion is about to get a fresh new look and a new hybrid flagship.
Our sources have verified the facelifted Haval Jolion range is only a matter of months away from arriving in Australia and it will include the new Jolion Pro to replace existing hybrid grades at the top of the line-up.
The existing Jolion is GWM Haval Australia’s top-selling model and the nation’s third best selling small SUV behind the MG ZS and Hyundai Kona, with sales up by almost 30 per cent to March this year.
GWM announced during the 2024 Beijing motor show today the updated Jolion is already heading to New Zealand and carsales understands Aussie deliveries are only a few weeks behind.
Sold in China as Chitu (Red Rabbit) since 2021, the new Haval Jolion Pro has already been spied on Aussie roads in the last few months and the vehicle is based on the same underpinnings as the regular Jolion but brandishes an entirely different exterior design.
While petrol versions of the 2024 Haval Jolion will receive revised front and rear styling, the Jolion Pro rides on the same 2700mm wheelbase but is 50mm wider and 2mm shorter overall at 4470mm.
Pricing and equipment levels are unclear at this stage, but during a recent visit to GWM’s proving ground in Baoding, China, carsales had the chance to drive the new Jolion Pro hybrid.
Full details are embargoed until May 2, but we can confirm the interior is virtually identical to the current model’s, meaning the exterior design is the big difference.
It should also be mentioned that no other Jolion models were available to test drive, indicating that production of the current model is likely being wound down.
Sporting a more curvaceous exterior design than the conventional version, the Jolion Pro is expected to come with the same 70kW/125Nm naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine as the existing Jolion Hybrid, which is backed up by a 110kW/250Nm electric motor to deliver a total of 139kW/375Nm.
The outgoing Jolion range is available in six 1.5-litre front-wheel drive variants including two flagship hybrid versions, priced between $28,490 drive-away for the Premium and $40,990 drive-away for the top-shelf Ultra Hybrid.
The new Jolion Pro will replace existing Jolion Hybrid grades, while entry-level Jolion variants (Premium, Lux and Ultra) should continue to be powered by a 1497cc turbo-petrol engine that produces 110kW/220Nm, and the mid-range Jolion S should stick with its 130kW/270Nm 1499cc direct-injection turbo-petrol engine.
