VW Australia has finally announced the pricing for its inbound ID.4 and ID.5 electric medium SUVs, with the zero-emission duo primed to start from $59,990 and $72,990 plus on-road costs respectively.
The initial launch line-up will only comprise of two models: the 2025 VW ID.4 Pro and sportier 2025 VW ID.5 GTX, the former of which has been priced in alignment with the corresponding Tiguan 162TSI R-Line in a similar fashion to Cupra’s ICE, PHEV and BEV offerings.
“The current Tiguan 162TSI R-Line is $60,590 RRP with comparable equipment, reinforcing Volkswagen’s simply better level of choice – choose ICE or BEV, at around the same price,” VW Australia said.
In exchange for their almost $60,000, ID.4 customers are treated to tri-zone climate control, ArtVelours microfleece upholstery, heated, powered and massaging front seats with memory function, a heated steering wheel, a 12.9-inch infotainment system, smartphone mirroring, a seven-speaker sound system, wireless phone charger, a fixed panoramic roof, 30-colour ambient lighting and auto-dimming rearview mirror.
The whole package rides on 19-inch wheels and adaptive suspension as standard with full LED exterior lighting, including VW’s proprietary IQ.Light system.
Drive is provided by a 210kW/545Nm single-motor powertrain drawing current from an 82kWh lithium-ion battery, a combination that yields a WLTP-certified range of up to 544km and a 0-100km/h time of 6.7 seconds.
The battery pack can be recharged at up to 175kW on DC power or 11kW on an alternating current.
As for the ID.5 GTX, it features a 250kW dual-motor set-up good for 0-100km/h in 5.4 seconds and a maximum range of up to 522km.
The extra firepower is matched with a sportier body kit, sloping roofline and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Inside the cabin you’ll find sports front seats with integrated headrests, GTX trim inserts and a Harman Kardon premium audio system – the rest of the equipment list reads the same as the ID.4 Pro’s.
“Volkswagen is delivering on that promise with high specification for the price, higher outputs and longer range than most rivals, with the pedigree of German engineering and the local focus on making BEV ownership easy,” VW Passenger Vehicles director Piergiorgio Minto said.
“As the only brand that has consistently made performance petrol SUVs available to customers, the ID.4 Pro and ID.5 GTX now speak directly to Tiguan customers and SUV customers with BEV and petrol pricing aligned. Whether refuelled or recharged, Volkswagen has a leading SUV available.”
Deliveries of both models will start roughly mid-year, at which point the ID.4 GTX and ID.5 Pro will also join the range and expand the portfolio to four variants.
