Haval H6 matches class leaders on safety
Chinese brand’s H6 mid-size SUV lands a full five-star ANCAP safety rating under 2022 testing regimeThe 2022 Haval H6 has joined the ranks of Australia’s safest mid-size SUVs with a maximum five-star rating from the independent ANCAP crash test authority.
The Haval H6 scored 90 per cent for adult occupant protection and 88 per cent for child occupant protection, including maximum points for driver protection in the side impact and oblique pole tests, front and rear seat occupant protection against whiplash and front seat passenger protection in the frontal offset test.
The two primary penalties applied in these fields referred to the ‘marginal’ protection of the driver’s chest and a loss of integrity within the footwell in the frontal offset test.
Vulnerable road user protection and safety assist scores of 73 per cent and 81 per cent respectively continued the H6’s strong run with ‘good’ performances of its active safety systems noted across the board, including their ability to avoid a run-off-road crash with an unmarked road edge and an intersection collision when turning in front of oncoming traffic.
ANCAP chief executive Carla Hoorweg said the Haval H6’s overall performance was an “impressive achievement” by the GWM Haval brand, especially so given it’s the “first new Haval SUV model to the Australasian market for a number of years”.
“There has been a lot of interest in a safety rating for the H6, and this now provides consumers with an independent assessment of its safety performance,” she said.
“Delivering a five-star vehicle to the market, against ANCAP’s latest 2022 protocols, demonstrates the brand has kept pace with the latest ANCAP safety standards and consumer safety expectations.”
All H6 models are powered by the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine (150kW/320Nm) save for the inbound Haval H6 Hybrid which will use a 1.5-litre turbo petrol-electric powertrain developing 179kW/500Nm.
The hybrid is expected to require separate testing to ensure it achieves the same standard.
The strong ANCAP result for the Haval H6 follows a five-star result for the GWM Ute (all models built from August 2021).
GWM Australia also expects the Haval Jolion small SUV to achieve a maximum result when tested.
