Haval Jolion to replace H2 small SUV

Chinese car-maker’s H2 crossover to stand aside for all-new Jolion later this year

GWM Australia is preparing to replace its smallest SUV, the Haval H2, with an all-new model known as the Haval Jolion.

Australian homologation documents reveal that the new 2021 Haval Jolion will use a version of the 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine found in the current H2, however, it looks as though it will be sacrificing some power in the name of efficiency.

The government documents show that the Jolion will serve up 105kW of power instead of the 110kW in the H2, and will also swap out the six-speed torque-converter automatic in favour of a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The Jolion, which carries a more modern and premium aesthetic, measures 4472mm long, 1841mm wide and 1574mm high, and rests on a 2700mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is 168mm.

These figures show the new Jolion will be a bigger proposition than the current Haval H2, and will liberate more room inside, with the H2’s wheelbase at 2560mm and its exterior dimensions measuring 4365mm long, 1814mm wide and 1710mm high. Minimum ground clearance is currently 133mm.

Slated for an Australian launch by mid-2021, the all-new Haval Jolion will ride on 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels and is underpinned by the Chinese manufacturer’s new modular LEMON (Lightweight, Electrification, Multi-purpose, Omni-protection and Network) platform.

This is the same architecture used for other new-generation models from Haval, including the redesigned Haval H6 mid-size SUV, which goes on sale Down Under in April.

Interior shots reveal a new rotary-style gear selector, instead of a conventional gear shifter, while high-grade soft-touch surfaces adorn the minimalist dashboard.

A large touch-screen infotainment system sitting front and centre is expected to offer the latest smartphone connectivity and convenience features including a high-definition reversing camera.

Other specs for the Australian market should include LED headlights, daytime running lights and tail-lights, keyless entry with push-button start, wireless smartphone charging, an electric tailgate and adaptive cruise control.  A sunroof will be available as an option.

The Haval H2 is currently priced from $22,990 drive-away for the entry-level Premium model, and $25,990 drive-away for the top-spec Lux.
