Fiat Chrysler's Mopar division will now sell you a 7.0-litre supercharged V8 crate motor that belts out a spleen-popping 745kW and 1288Nm. And the price -- roughly $A43,000 ($US29,995).
The big 426 cubic-inch crate motor bangs out an impressive 1000hp and was first seen at the 2018 SEMA show in Las Vegas, when FCA's Mopar division revealed the striking Super Charger restomod concept that stopped enthusiasts in their tracks.
You can't buy the car but you can get the engine now, the earth-shaking, ludicrously potent 1000hp (745kW) supercharged 'Hellephant' V8 available for order.
"Our enthusiasts crave power and performance and our new 'Hellephant' Mopar Crate HEMI engine and kit deliver huge horsepower and torque in a plug-and-play package that is unique in the industry," said Steve Beahm of Mopar.
"The 1968 Dodge Charger is one of the hottest classic cars, which is why we decided to use it as a starting point for the 'Super Charger' Concept. It’s an amazing vehicle and a great showcase for our 'Hellephant' engine."
The bad news is that Aussie buyers may have trouble sourcing one, with the official FCA line being that it is only available for purchase and shipping in the US and Canada.
Nevertheless, it doesn't stop the 426 cubic-inch lump of anger being an impressive engine.
It follows in the footsteps of Mopar's 707hp Hellcat crate engine which is about $US10,000 cheaper.
While almost $A43,000 may sound like a lot of money for an engine (and you'll have to pay extra for the ECU, wiring, throttle, sensors etc), consider that it pumps out more than pretty much any exotic car you can think of.
If you're in North America, you can order the Hellephant engine and accessories through the www.cratehemi.com website.
