The team at Jaguar Heritage Racing will be partaking in some serious nail biting when 10 historic Jaguars fire up to compete in the 2014 Mille Miglia held on the roads between Rome and Brescia from May 15 to May 18.
Leading the Jaguar Heritage Racing Team charge will be the final example of the legendary "long nose" Jaguar D-Type that was built in 1950 and will be driven by former F1 drivers Martin Brundle and Bruno Senna.
The D-Type will be followed by a brace of historic Jaguars including the C-Type driven to victory by Sir Stirling Moss in the 1952 Reims Grand Prix (this time in the hands of ex Le Mans winner Andy Wallace) in company with two other C-Types – one driven by Belgian singer/songwriter Milow with AC/DC singer Brian Johnson and Jaguar Land Rover Regional Director for Europe Bernard Kuhnt.
XK120s will be represented by the Stirling Moss Monthlery record-breaking XK120 coupe and the Ecurie Ecosse team's 1951 roadster that was raced by Sir James Scott-Douglas – the latter to be entrusted to American TV chat show host Jay Leno.
British actor Jeremy Irons will be participating in the ex Jim Swift XK120 roadster, while author David Blakely will team up with TV presenter Jodie Kidd driving the same XK120 that participated last year in the hands of actor Daniel Day-Lewis.
Husband and wife team Elliot and Erin Gleave will take the wheel of the ex Duncan Hamilton XK120 roadster
The XKs will be joined by an XK140 once owned by British driver David Hobbs that will be driven by Scottish singer/songwriter Amy MacDonald.
The Mille Miglia is only open to models that took part in the original races.
It will cover approximately 1600 kilometres over a gruelling route between Brescia and Rome. It starts and finishes in Brescia, the heart of the Mille Miglia, looping through Rome via Padova, San Marino and L'Aquila en route, before returning via Bologna to the finish on May 18.
