Jaguar Type 01 puts a modern spin on 70s luxury

Jaguar's new flagship mixes old-school grand touring cues with modern tech

The News

Jaguar has revealed the interior of its upcoming Type 01 ahead of the model's full debut in New York on October 6. Built around a full-length centre spine that divides the cabin into four distinct spaces, the design breaks from the minimalist, screen-dominated approach adopted by many luxury rivals and instead leans into some classic grand touring themes.

The Key Details

  • Jaguar Type 01 interior shown for the first time
  • Full-length centre spine creates four individual cabin spaces
  • Brass-effect detailing and stone-inspired colours feature throughout
  • New infotainment system integrated into a slim dashboard
  • Full reveal scheduled for October 6 2026 in New York

The Finer Details

The most distinctive element of the Type 01's interior is a structural spine that runs the length of the cabin, separating each occupant into their own seating area.

It's an unusual layout for a modern luxury car, and one that gives the Type 01 a slightly retro feel.

The long centre console, low seating position and heavy use of metallic trim recall luxury coupes and grand tourers from the 1960s and 1970s, albeit with contemporary materials and digital technology.

Jaguar chief interior designer Thomas Holden said the design intentionally moved away from the industry's preference for wide, horizontal dashboards.

"Our holistic design philosophy translates the vehicle's exterior presence into a distinctive interior architecture," Holden said.

"In contrast to the horizontal interior design norm, we emphasise its dramatic longitudinal nature through the central spine – an architectural statement that creates four individual spaces."

The company says the interior colour palette was inspired by travertine stone, while brass-inspired trim runs through the centre of the cabin and across the door tops.

Technology is present but not dominant.

A slim dashboard incorporates Jaguar's new infotainment system, while a digital ClearSight rear-view display sits at the base of the windscreen.

Jaguar has also incorporated hidden storage compartments and concealed technology elements that remain out of sight when not in use.

The Road Ahead

The Type 01 prototype will make appearances during Monterey Car Week and at the Pebble Beach Concours before the production model is fully revealed in New York on October 6.

As Jaguar continues its transition towards a new generation of luxury vehicles, the Type 01's interior suggests the brand is drawing as much inspiration from traditional grand tourers as it is from contemporary EV design trends.
