Having now revealed the radical new Type 01 electric sedan, Jaguar will next turn its attention to the release of a more practical, higher-riding follow-up model.
Possibly to be called the Type 02, the SUV-like Jaguar will retain GT-like proportions and will not be a direct rival to typical Range Rover or Defender models.
Jaguar global managing director Rawdon Glover told carsales that the brand’s future products must occupy a differentiated space within Jaguar Land Rover, leaving traditional high-sided luxury SUVs and rugged off-roaders to its sister marques.
Expect the SUV-like model to be considerably more practical than the Type 01 while being fundamentally road-focused in nature.

Despite parts of the luxury SUV segment moving towards squarer shapes in recent years, Jaguar very deliberately won’t move in that direction.
“For me, Range Rover is the best high-sided SUV [and] Defender is the most capable high-sided SUV – why would I want to go up against that?” said Glover.
“What the House of Brands strategy demands of us is to have distinct product portfolios... on my side, I need to make sure that the products [Jaguar] brings to market are targeting a different part of the audience and cater for a different need that the consumer has.
“So yeah, don’t expect us to have our version of the full-size Range Rover,” he said.

What buyers can expect is greater everyday usability than the Type 01. Despite being 5.2 metres long, the sedan model has a relatively compact rear seat and a 450-litre boot.
The SUV-like model is likely to share the Type 01’s 118kWh battery and its rear-biased, triple-motor electric powertrain producing 757kW of power and 1365Nm of torque.
“Different cars in the portfolio will serve different purposes,” said Glover.
“[The Type 01] is very focused. It’s low-slung. It needed to look like nothing else... other [Jaguar] vehicles will offer more practicality; they will offer different things for different audiences. You can expect that in the portfolio.”

That points to an SUV-like model that is more like a sports-luxury crossover. Possible rivals will include the new Porsche Cayenne Electric, the upcoming Mercedes-AMG electric SUV and the new Bentley Torcal.
Based on pricing of the Type 01, which is slated to commence at around $300,000 plus on-road costs, the more practical Jaguar may undercut the Bentley.
Glover’s comments confirm Jaguar is developing a more practical model to join the Type 01 in the British brand’s revitalised line-up.
“The second car won’t be too long away, but we would not be talking about [revealing] a second car before we’ve actually delivered the first – I think that would be folly,” said Glover.
Deliveries of the Type 01 are scheduled to commence in the second half of 2027, pointing to a reveal in 2028.
More mysterious is the identity of the third new Jaguar model, with the only firm clue being Glover’s statement that it will cater to yet another differentiated audience.
