Holden announces pricing for Astra sedan

Booted Astra will offer 'competitive pricing' and local engineering input from July 1 launch

Holden will fill out the Astra small-car range from July with a new sedan body style priced from $21,990, including on-road costs.

The pricing announced today further addresses the previous weakness in Holden's strategy for the Astra – a price point that was too high when the hatch was released late last year.

Careful to hit the target this time around, Holden is heavily promoting the Astra's five-star ANCAP rating and Lifetime Capped Price servicing from $229. And the specification is on the mark too, with a reversing camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto offered as standard.

“We’re really proud of the new Astra Sedan, not just because of its long list of features and comfortable drive but also for its outstanding customer value both at purchase and throughout ownership,” said Holden MD, Mark Bernhard.

“Launching with $21,990 driveaway puts Astra right at the pointy end of small-car segment pricing and then when you consider Capped Price Servicing totaling only $916 for the first three years or 60,000km, customers can be sure they’ve got a great deal and will be well looked after.”

Powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that's also available in the Astra hatch, the sedan produces 110kW and 245Nm. At entry level, the Astra LS sedan is offered with manual transmission or the option of the six-speed automatic that's standard for the more expensive LS+, LT and LTZ grades.

Holden's local engineers have carried out suspension and steering calibration to make the Astra sedan fit for Aussie roads.

“We’ve developed a unique steering tune for Astra which gives it a more balanced and responsive feel and, ultimately, adds to the drivers’ confidence in the car,” said Lead Dynamics Engineer, Rob Trubiani.

“We also tuned the car’s suspension dampers and chassis controls to make sure Astra feels safe and comfortable on long journeys, but inspiring to drive through the corners.”

As standard, the base-grade Astra LS sedan comes with the reversing camera and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility already mentioned, plus six airbags, a seven-inch infotainment screen and cruise control.

“We know our customers place great importance on in-car technology but they also don’t want to be overwhelmed by it,” said Bernhard.

“Customers want to be able to drive with ease and in comfort and know that if they want to listen to their music, it’s safe and easy. If they need to make a call or search directions, it’s easy. That’s where Astra Sedan excels.”

The sub-$22,000 price for the Astra LS applies to the manual variant, the auto option adding $2000 to the price, taking the driveaway ask up to $23,990. For $1000 more ($24,990), the Astra LS+ moves upmarket with the following equipment as standard: Forward-facing camera for Lane Keep Assist/Forward Distance Indicator/Forward Collision Alert, projector headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, leather steering wheel and auto highbeam assist.

At $27,990 the Astra LT sedan is $3000 more expensive than the LS+ variant, but compensates with the following added features as standard: 17-inch alloy wheels, Side Blind Spot Alert, keyless entry/start, Advanced Park Assist (auto park), rain-sensing wipers, eight-inch colour infotainment touch screen, integrated satellite navigation, digital radio (DAB+), heated exterior mirrors, lip spoiler and remote starting.

Coming in at $29,790 – $1800 more than the Astra LT – is the LTZ grade, which boasts: 18-inch alloy wheels, electric sunroof, heated leather seats, single zone climate control and chrome exterior highlights.

Colours available are Summit White, Absolute Red, Gasoline, Old Blue Eyes, Nitrate Silver, Satin Steel Grey and Phantom Black. All colours other than Summit White and Absolute Red are prestige options, incurring a charge of $550.
