Holden boss responds to Ford plant closures
Like the rest of the community, Mike Devereux was caught out by Ford's momentous announcement todayHolden MD Mike Devereux was taken completely by surprise when Ford president Bob Graziano confirmed that the blue oval brand would cease local production in 2016.
Devereux (pictured), currently travelling around the country with a flock of motoring journalists in the new VF Commodore, has actually championed Ford's Falcon in the past.
But he doesn't seem to be feeling much love for Graziano and the Ford Motor Company right at this moment.
"Hey Bob, why did you have to pick today...? You had plenty of time," he asked rhetorically.
"It certainly makes for good theatre doesn't it?" Devereux continued, before getting his head around what this meant for his own company.
"Fords gone, we are not – that's the story."
The Holden exec promised motoring.com.au correspondent Marton Pettendy that he will provide an official statement shortly. Stay tuned for updates.
