Holden commemorates Lowndes V8SC career
Limited edition Commodore to mark Red Bull driver's 20th anniversary in V8sHolden has announced it will release a limited edition Commodore next month, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Craig Lowndes' involvement in the V8 Supercars category.
Lowndes, a three-time touring car champion who has won at Bathurst five times and has 97 V8SC wins under his belt, debuted in September 1994 at the tender age of 20. Just a month later he shared the driving with Brad Jones in their second-placed car at that year's Bathurst 1000.
The limited edition Commodore will be named the Craig Lowndes SS V Special Edition Commodore, and will be based on the VF Commodore SS V Redline. According to the manufacturer, each car will be 'hand finished' and 'individually numbered' by staff at the Holden Enhancement Centre co-located with the manufacturing plant in Elizabeth, South Australia.
For the moment, Holden is keeping its cards close to the chest, but promises to reveal pricing and specification for the limited edition model next month. According to the company, the cars will be sold with 'money can't buy' experiences and goods, including a framed certificate to match the build plate, admission to a Red Bull function with Lowndes playing host, and two general admission tickets and pit passes to each customer's closest V8SC event.
"I've had a lot of success on the racetrack behind the wheel of Commodores and to celebrate that with this special road-going version is a great privilege. I know fans and customers all over the country are going to love it," said Lowndes, as quoted in a press release.
Holden dealers are taking orders for the limited edition Commodore now.
