Holden Commodore's Euro cousin facelifted

Minor styling updates and tech overhaul for Commodore donor model -- but will it come to Australia?

Opel has revealed an updated Insignia for Europe in 2020, but it remains to be seen if or when the changes will flow through to the version sold in Australia as the Holden Commodore.

Set to be released in Europe this January at the Brussels motor show, the mild midlife facelift brings cosmetic tweaks, new safety tech and brighter LED headlights.

Up front the updates amount to a redesigned front bumper, revised grille and new headlights with a split-level lower edge and daytime running lamps.

Speaking of the new lamps, according to Opel they feature the car-maker's LED matrix tech that see the 84 individual LEDs packaged to provide a crisp, clear view of the road ahead at night.

The clever light system can also 'carve' its beam around an on-coming car to avoid dazzle while still providing a well-lit view of the road ahead.

Look closer and you might spot the front bumper that repositions the fog lights either side of a wide central air intake within a vent that looks like a manta ray.

Towards the rear of the car there's a new dual exhaust system plus other undisclosed changes that are claimed to provide for a more coupe-like look.

No pictures of the updated cabin have been released, but inside there's a new wireless smartphone charger and a refreshed 7.0- or 8.0-inch infotainment system that's claimed to provide for a more modern appearance and offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Under the bonnet Opel (and British brand Vauxhall) has yet to detail any powertrain changes so it's still not known if any Peugeot or Citroen engines have crept in following the takeover of GM's European brands by PSA – but it's likely.

Other new tech for Europe includes a reversing camera and rear-cross traffic alert, but stay tuned because all will be revealed next month.

At this stage Holden is yet to confirm if or when these changes will flow through to the Australian-specific Holden Commodore range on sale here.
