The interior design of the new-generation Chinese-market Cruze has been revealed, showing a sleek, well-integrated, upmarket style to match the contemporary new exterior design.
The exterior design of the new generation 2015 Cruze small car was first revealed at the 2014 Beijing motor show in April (pictured here with GM design chief Ed Welburn), and now the interior design has been exposed it's clear Chevrolet wants to compete with the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf in terms of interior design. Current first-generation Cruze models are manufactured in Australia wearing Holden badges, and will continue to do so until 2017, which means the all-new global model pictured, which is destined for US and Chinese markets, may not reach Australian shores for some time.
The most likely scenario is that Holden will continue building and selling the small car, deploying a facelifted version of the current Cruze to tide the vehicle over until 2017 when all of Holden's local car production ceases. In some markets there may even be both Cruze generations available at the one time, further confusing things.
Appearing to make use of higher quality materials, the interior of the Chinese-market Chevrolet Cruze exhibits a more organic design than the current model, while reducing the number of controls and buttons for a more cohesive, simplified layout.
A large touchscreen infotainment system equipped with MyLink II connectivity apps dominates the centre of the dashboard, protruding towards the front occupants for easier access, while the dashpad flanks are swathed in brown leather.
Most likely from a range-topping model, the Cruze interior pictured boasts leather seats, single-zone climate control, a modern twin-dial instrument cluster and larger blue-illuminated buttons, all of which contribute to the interior's upscale appearance.
Interior space has been expanded in some dimensions, Chevrolet claiming the second-generation Chevy Cruze has "class-leading rear knee room". The new model will also deliver an improved driving experience, the company insists, and will be offered with a range of engines and transmissions.
A turbo-petrol 1.4-litre and a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine will be available in China, paired to a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
