Holden Cruze tops ANCAP test
Locally built Series II Cruze and Hyundai i40 Tourer score five-stars in latest ANCAP round; China's Chery J11 two-starsHolden’s Series II Cruze hatch, slated for release next month, has been awarded the highest possible five-star result in the latest round of ANCAP testing.
Series II Cruze hatch joins the Series II Cruze sedan in achieving top marks. Both vehicles are equipped as standard with a comprehensive array of safety gear, including six airbags, anti-lock brakes and stability control.
Both Cruze models also benefit from a technically advanced body structure designed to offer optimum protection to occupants in the event of a collision.
“We knew we were building an extremely safe car but it’s great to get this third party recognition,” said Holden MD, Mike Devereux. “The high level of safety features is just one of the many reasons Cruze has been so well received in this country. We can’t wait to get the hatch version into our showrooms next month and into customer’s hands.”
Joining Cruze in a five-star result is the soon to be launched Hyundai i40 Tourer, its score was adopted from recent EuroNCAP testing.
At the other end of the scale, the Chinese built Chery J11 SUV scored a two-star rating, making it the lowest scoring vehicle in the segment.
The J11 scored two from a possible 16 points in the frontal offset test, ANCAP saying: “The passenger compartment lost structural integrity and there was excessive pedal displacement. Protection from serious chest, leg and foot injury was poor for the driver.”
