Holden has issued a recall notice for the VF Commodore and WN Caprice built in the 2014 model year to investigate a possible loose connection from the driver's seat position sensor.
Only 276 cars are subject to the recall, and far fewer than that number will actually have had the driver's seat base removed in service, which is what prompted the recall.
According to Holden spokesman Mark Flintoft, removal of the seat base may result in a loose connection from the position sensor, which the driver's airbag monitors for the purpose of appropriate deployment in a crash.
Without the position sensor operating to specification, the airbag will deploy at a 'standard' setting, delivering the full 100 per cent of explosive force during the deployment. When the position sensor is operating correctly, the airbag can deploy at as little as 80 per cent of maximum force, for drivers seated closer to the wheel.
Holden is writing to owners of the vehicles concerned, to let them know of the recall. Vehicles subject to the recall were built between April 8, 2014 and September 17, 2014. The VIN range is 6G3NT5E20EL902287 to 6G1FB5E35EL008990.
