Holden VF Ute and Sportwagon revealed

Holden's VF Commodore Ute and Sportwagon are breaking cover

The wraps have come off the new Holden VF Commodore Ute and Sportwagon. These official images of the Calais V Sportwagon and SS ute form part of Holden's carefully measured VF reveal campaign, which is yet to deliver hard facts and figures on the much-anticipated new model.

Both models are expected to be offered with carryover V6 and V8 engines, but changes to power outputs, and (critically) fuel consumption, are kept secret for now.

As noted in our initial VF wagon news story, the two new Commodore variants have fewer changes than the Commodore sedans. While new sheet metal for the front ends of both VF Sportwagon and bright orange Ute is evident, the doors, roofs and rear ends remain essentially unchanged from the VE.

Changes to the interiors of the VF Sportwagon and Ute mirror those seen on the sedan models, however, ushering in a high-tech, upmarket look and feel that Holden says will be "world class".

Work initially started on the new VF Commodore range in 2009 and Holden says it will undertake more than 1.4 million kilometres of "local and overseas validation testing" before the car hits the streets in May.

This adds fuel to speculation that Holden will export more than just top-tier V8 sedans to the USA.

Holden Chief Engineer Brett Vivian revealed that the Commodore has been tested in key export markets, and will "take the driving experience to new levels".

"We've put VF through its paces around the globe -- from Sweden to North America to the Middle East, but the most critical testing is the thousands of evaluation kilometres we cover on local roads in Australia," said Mr Vivian.
