Honda Australia has announced a new aftersales loyalty program for both new and previous customers, providing up to three years of additional warranty and roadside assistance.
The new Honda initiative, which follows a sales slide of almost 30 per cent in the first half of this year for the Japanese brand, is one of the longest aftersales back-up programs now available in Australia.
But to qualify for the extended warranty, which doesn’t apply to cars used for commercial purposes, vehicles must be within their original warranty period as of June 3, 2024, and scheduled servicing must be completed by an authorised Honda service centre.
The warranty period will extend each year at the time of servicing until the vehicle reaches a total of eight years.
Much like Mitsubishi’s market-leading 10-year conditional warranty, Honda Extend adds an extra 12 months or 36 months to the brand’s existing seven- or five-year/unlimited-km warranties respectively.
The offer doesn’t apply to new Honda vehicles purchased under the current eight-year warranty promotion, including the ZR-V and 2023 CR-V, but it does encompass every model in the current Honda range including the Civic Type R hot hatch.
The extended warranty offer means Honda now offers Australia’s second-longest new-vehicle warranty behind Mitsubishi, but the latter’s coverage is capped at 200,000km whereas Honda’s is unlimited for mileage.
Kia, MG, Chery, SsangYong, GWM and Skoda are the best of the rest with seven-year/unlimited-km warranties, followed by Isuzu Ute and BYD which both offer a six-year/150,000km coverage.
Most other auto brands – mainstream and premium – offer the industry-standard five-year/unlimited-kilometre programs.
“Our commitment to enhancing the experience of owning a Honda vehicle and providing joy to our customers is ever growing and prioritised within the business,” said Honda Australia ownership experience general manager James Greenwood.
“The Honda Extend program is a way for us to acknowledge and recognise our loyal servicing customers who regularly return for service within our Honda Service Centre network.”
Honda Australia has delivered 8705 vehicles to June this year (almost 29 per cent less than in the first six months of 2023), when its three best-sellers were the CR-V (3576), ZR-V (2687) and HR-V (1729) SUVs.
