Honda blows CR-Z
Official supercharger kit boosts Honda hybrid coupe's power output by 50 per centHonda has released a supercharger kit for the CR-Z hybrid coupe in North America, increasing engine output from 100kW to 150kW.
The official dealer-fitted Honda Performance Development (HPD) supercharger kit joins a range of official HPD accessories first revealed for the CR-Z in the US at the 2013 SEMA aftermarket show.
HPD chief Art St Cyr said the kit adds more performance to the CR-Z's efficiency (it consumes as little as 5.0L/100km in Australia), but no fuel consumption figures are provided.
"The CR-Z was the first hybrid to prove that efficiency doesn't have to come at the cost of sportiness and fun," said St Cyr.
"With HPD street performance accessories, including the new supercharger kit, the CR-Z will surprise everyone again with even higher levels of performance directly inspired by our on-track racing efforts."
Apart from a high-efficiency HPD centrifugal supercharger, the kit comprises an air-to-air intercooler, an ECU calibrated to meet CARB AT-PZEV regulations with 91 octane fuel, and a high-flow exhaust, air-filter and fuel-injectors.
Available for the CR-Z manual only, it's priced at $US5495 ($A5906) and covered by the balance of customer's five-year/60,000-mile Honda limited powertrain warranty when installed by a Honda dealer.
Other CR-Z performance parts available from HPD in the US include a limited slip differential, 'sport' clutch and chassis upgrades like 'sport' dampers, shorter coil springs, 300mm diameter disc brakes and 18-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, plus cosmetic components such as front lip and tail spoilers, a rear diffuser and HPD badges.
