The Honda City has been dragging its feet in recent times. Sales have been way down this year, but now there's a reason to explain the City's poor showing in the market to date; Honda has been running out stock in anticipation of a facelifted model.
While the upgraded City is hard to pick from the previous model — a chrome grille is the obvious point of reference — there's a lot of detail differences inside and out. Bumpers have been restyled, front and rear, as have the tail lights. The base-grade City VTi now features a micro antenna at the rear and the VTi-L gains 16-inch alloy wheels in a new style.
An upgrade for the interior includes aluminium-look decorative trim and a new seat fabric. The VTi-L variant (now auto-only) is now equipped with a door lock switch for all four doors on the driver's side, chrome finish for the audio and climate controls, and blue stitching for the seats.
Both grades have been updated with a speedometer that glows blue, thicker window glass and premium carpet for reduced NVH. Honda has added a colour, Sparkling Brown Metallic, to the carried over colours of Taffeta White, Alabaster Silver, Polished Metal, Crystal Black and Carnelian Red.
Honda has reduced the price of the City again after introducing it to the local market at a price that placed it up against some small cars, rather than other light-segment rivals.
Each of the three new City variants has received a $500 haircut. The City VTi with manual transmission is now $19,990 driveaway, based on an MLP (Manufacturer's List Price) of $18,490. For the auto variant, Honda is charging an MLP of $20,490 to arrive at driveaway pricing of $21,990. The sole VTi-L variant, with automatic, is not being promoted with driveaway pricing, but the MLP is $22,990.
“The new-look City has received a number of new features and styling, ” said Stephen Collins, Honda Australia's General Manager, quoted in a press release. “The all-new price of $19,990 drive-away makes the City sensational value for money. Australians will love the look of the new-look City.”
