Honda Civic prices rise – again

Ageing current generation of Honda’s small car ends by mid-2021, taking sedan with it

The Honda Civic has received a significant price increase of up to $1000 across the small sedan and hatch line-up.

The entry point to the range is now $23,590 plus on-road costs for the Honda Civic VTi sedan – up $1000 – while the VTi-S has risen $350 to now start at $26,290 plus ORCs.

The mid-range VTi-L has copped a $750 price hike to push above the $30K mark, now starting at $30,090, while the RS is priced from $34,090 (+$750) and the VTi-LX from $35,590 (+$550).

Hatch variants, which start between $200 and $700 higher than the equivalent sedan, have received the same price rises across the various model grades.

The flagship Honda Civic Type R hot hatch remains at $54,990 plus on-road costs, although it too was recently dealt a $3000 price rise with the 2020 upgrade that brought several new features including the adoption of a data-logging system for track work.

These latest price rises across the rest of the Civic range do not appear to be offset by any improvement in specification, although carsales has sought clarification from Honda Australia.

The regular Honda Civic hatch range was updated early this year, with some subtle design changes and modest equipment upgrades also attracting a price rise of between $400 and $1250, depending on the variant.

This is close to the last throw of the dice for the current-generation Honda Civic, which reaches the end of its lifecycle by mid-2021 ahead of the 11th generation entering production in the second half of next year.

Local launch timing is still to be confirmed, but Honda Australia has confirmed that only the hatchback body style will be offered with the new generation, and that a Civic Type R will also arrive at some point, but it’s the end of the road for the booted version.
