Honda cuts SUV prices but Civic Type R more expensive
Up to $3100 slashed from entry-level HR-V, ZR-V and CR-V SUVs but hot hatch now $1000 higherHonda Australia has slashed prices at various entry points to its all-important SUV range in a bid to boost sales, but at the same time has slapped an extra $1000 onto its flagship 2024 Honda Civic Type R.
Now with fresh stock of the hot hatch in dealerships after clearing a two-year-long waiting list, Honda Australia has seen fit to increase the price of the Civic Type R to $73,600 drive-away.
There has been no change to the regular Civic VTi LX or e:HEV LX hybrid, priced from $47,200 and $55,000 drive-away respectively.
The Japanese brand has been making a recovery of sorts this year after its annual sales fell to a new low of just 13,734 units in 2023 – well below the 20,000 number that Honda Australia senior management previously said was sustainable under its fixed-price agency sales model introduced in 2021.
To the end of March, Honda had posted 4683 sales, up 18.9 per cent year-on-year but still at historically low volumes and with downturns for the regular Civic and the new CR-V mid-size SUV, pricing for which has now dropped $600 for the entry-level VTi X (from $43,900 drive-away).
The HR-V small SUV will be facelifted later this year, which has prompted Honda to clear its decks by offering the small SUV at $34,900 drive-away for the entry-level Vi X (-$1800), and from $43,900 for the e:HEV L hybrid – down a whopping $3100.
Meanwhile, the ZR-V that launched in July last year – a second mid-size SUV for the brand, which is slightly smaller than the CR-V – has also received a $700 price reduction for the baseline VTi X and second-tier VTi L models, now priced from $39,500 and $42,500 drive-away respectively.
The Honda Accord is also still in run-out – priced from an unchanged $57,900 for the petrol VTi-LX and $61,900 (both drive-away) for the hybrid model – with a new-generation sedan (offered as a hybrid only) due to arrive before mid-year.
